Before Mike Allen became a professional basketball player, coach, trainer, athletic director and mentor, he was a young athlete trying to find his way in a single-parent home. A three-sport high school athlete recruited by Division I programs for football and baseball, he turned that down to follow a coach who believed in him: a basketball coach at San Jose Christian College, now Jessup University.
He went on to become a three-time All-American and three-time National Champion and MVP in basketball, the sport nobody had recruited him for, and he was recently inducted into his High School Hall of Fame. Today he is an Executive Athletics Director, coach, youth sports leader, author and speaker with a Master's degree in Sports Management and Leadership.
One coach changed what was possible for him with a few simple words:
"One day you are going to make the biggest impact on lives, more than you will ever know."
That is what he is here to talk about.
With the right guidance and support, belief can change a young athlete's life.
